The Sleepground

• Objective —

  To lift some burden off those facing sleep disorders and design an interactive space where it focuses on providing sleep-related products, services, and experiences

• About —

  Everyone sleeps. It is a necessity for all individuals from the time they are born. Yet, everyone goes through different and personal experiences with sleep. One might have a specific bedtime routine, sleeping habits, and thoughts right before falling asleep. Each of these stories could be endless. While the sleepless individuals can feel less lonely by having others relate to similar experiences, the sleepy individuals can gain more motivation for activities during the day.

• Process —

  In order to create the presence of space, wayfinding and other touchpoints were carefully considered. The visitor’s kit assists visitors to have a better experience inside the facility, which includes a booklet, map, sticker pack, pen, and nut snack. Some of the printed media ties into the physical space, which creates a strong integration between the two elements. For the main colors of purples and blues with a point color of yellow, the combination reminds viewers of nighttime/sleep. The use of duotones for images not only depict the brand colors, but it also represents night vision especially when individuals have a hard time falling asleep and stare into space for long periods of time. The wordmark of the logo shows a combination of scientific aspects (sans-serif typeface) and playful aspects (custom scribble typeface). The illustration style reflects the abstracted thought bubbles while the iconography system depicts legible and rounded forms. Copywriting also portrays the juxtaposing tone of calm/educational yet playful.
